Welcome to July – by Kathy Seehafer

Is it really summer? I mean, is it really, really summer? YES it IS! The sunshine, humidity, and thunderstorms are a sure sign. All of nature declares the goodness of God.

If you are into numbers, July 1st is the 182nd day of the year (183rd in leap years) with 183 days remaining. July 1st is the last day of the first half of the year. Summer vacations are in progress. We start off with our Family Camp. Then there’s the 4th of July.

What a great time to just stop and be still. Take time to ponder things of God and how they impact your life. Start thinking things like making every day count and how you can make a difference to others.

Have you ever thought to yourself, “I wonder what God wants from me? Am I doing what He wants me to be doing and do I even know what that is?”

We all have times when we wonder that. We live in a world that seems to thrive on getting us distracted and away from God’s path for us. And to keep us from asking what His plan and path is.

The world wants us to focus on ourselves, on our pleasure, on our entertainment, and to be concerned with only ourselves. It feels like we always have to fight to keep on the straight and narrow. Well, guess what? We do!

There are so many things that can distract us. Take cell phones for instance. Are you able to ‘unplug’ and shut off your cell for an hour, a day, or a weekend? No, you will not die because you don’t have your phone.

It’s like we have forgotten how to be still.

If you find yourself reaching for your phone continuously, you may want to reconsider ‘unplugging’ and grab your Bible instead.

If God wants to talk to you, how would He do it? First is through His Word. If you read only 15 minutes each day, you would have read over 91 hours in a year! Consider the difference it makes when you put good things into your heart and mind. Second is through prayer time with Him. Just remember that prayer is a two-way conversation. When’s the last time that you went to your prayer closet and talked with your Friend? We recently heard a sermon about how God talked to people in the Bible. Has He changed? No, of course not. He still wants to talk to us, His beloved.

If you wonder where your life should be when it comes to alignment with God’s will, you just need to ask Him. He promises us the things we need and He even promises us the desires of our hearts. What’s something you want God to do for you? Have you asked? Have you thanked Him?

He has so many promises for us. As we’ve been told, all of God’s promises are conditional except one. When we do our part, He has promised to do His part. And God always keeps His promises.

So step out in faith today. If you are lacking anything, ask. You know the formula. A.S.K. Ask, Seek, Knock. Be excited about what He has in store for and your life. Go and enjoy the this life He has given you.
